MoMac Acquires Create Design Studio, Strengthening North Canterbury’s Creative Powerhouse

MoMac, North Canterbury’s bold and innovative full-service creative agency, has officially acquired Create Design Studio, one of the region’s most established and respected creative brands.
The move brings together two powerhouse teams with complementary strengths, expanding MoMac’s capabilities to include in-house commercial print, tripling its client base, and strengthening its position as the go-to creative agency in North Canterbury. Most importantly, the acquisition keeps jobs, expertise, and creativity local.
“We’ve admired Create for years. They were our biggest competitor and, honestly, our biggest inspiration,” says MoMac founder Ryan McDonald. “Partnering with them was a dream of mine long before the opportunity came up. This is proof that big dreams really can thrive in small towns.”
For Create’s owner, Laura, the decision was deeply personal:

Founded in 2017, MoMac has built a reputation for delivering top-notch creative work, from branding, web design, and digital marketing to photography, videography, and drone services, all from its Rangiora base. Create Design Studio brings more than 30 years of local brand heritage, renowned for exceptional graphic design, print production, and personal client service. The combined offering means clients can now access everything from brand strategy and design through to commercial print, digital campaigns, and custom-built software, all under one roof.

Both leaders emphasise that this merger is about growth, not change for change’s sake. All Create staff have joined MoMac, with Laura stepping into the role of Creative Director, a position that will see her lead design across the entire business.
“We’re custodians of what Laura and her team have built,” Ryan explains. “The history, the style, the relationships, those things matter. We’re here to honour them while giving our clients even more.”
For staff, the acquisition opens new opportunities for collaboration, skill development, and working on larger-scale, higher-profile campaigns. The long-term goal is to expand into select national and international markets and continue to develop the software division while keeping the heart of the business in Rangiora.
