Kaiapoi Lights & Matariki Kaiapoi Bring the Community Together for Another Incredible Matariki Celebration

Another Matariki weekend has come and gone, and what a fantastic celebration it was.

From the vibrant atmosphere at Matariki Kaiapoi to the spectacular displays at Kaiapoi Lights, it was incredible to see the community come together to celebrate one of New Zealand’s most significant occasions. Families, friends and whānau embraced the weekend, creating an atmosphere that reflected everything Matariki is about – connection, reflection and spending quality time together.

MoMac was incredibly proud to once again support both events through our Community Initiatives & Sponsorship Programme, helping bring these celebrations to life while capturing the memories that will last long after the weekend.

Supporting More Than Just the Event

Our involvement extended well beyond event weekend.

Working alongside event organiser Karl Horwarth, our team helped create the visual identity and digital presence for both events, ensuring visitors had easy access to everything they needed before arriving.

As part of our sponsorship, the MoMac team delivered:

  • Logo design for both Kaiapoi Lights and Matariki Kaiapoi.
  • Design and development of the official event website.
  • Two dedicated event landing pages for both the ticketed Kaiapoi Lights experience and the free Matariki Kaiapoi community festival.
  • Graphic design for promotional material, including event timetables, social media graphics and digital marketing assets.
  • Event photography across the celebrations.
  • Event videography, including drone footage and highlight videos capturing the weekend.

By combining creative design, website development, photography, videography and marketing support, we were proud to help showcase everything these events had to offer.

Capturing the Weekend

Our team was on the ground across three days and nights, documenting the atmosphere, entertainment and community spirit throughout the celebrations.

A huge thank you to:

  • Gary Patel – Event Photography
  • Josh Turner – Event Videography
  • Ryan McDonald – Drone footage and event support

From colourful light installations and live entertainment through to fireworks, family activities and community moments, our goal was to capture the event exactly as people experienced it.

For Ryan personally, one of the highlights was attending with his own family and seeing so many familiar faces enjoying the weekend together. It was also rewarding to hear people recognising MoMac’s involvement and support throughout the event.

Congratulations to Everyone Involved

Events like these require an enormous amount of planning and dedication behind the scenes.

Congratulations to Karl Horwarth and everyone involved in organising another outstanding Matariki celebration for Kaiapoi and the wider North Canterbury community. The positive feedback throughout the weekend reflected the passion and commitment that goes into delivering an event of this scale.

We’re incredibly proud to have played a small part in helping bring it all together.

Looking Ahead

Community initiatives continue to be an important focus for MoMac.

Through our Community Initiatives & Sponsorship Programme, we’re committed to supporting projects that strengthen our region, bring people together and create lasting value for our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported the events and helped make another memorable Matariki weekend possible.

We already can’t wait to see what Kaiapoi Lights and Matariki Kaiapoi have in store for next year.
