MoMac Proudly Supports the Return of Rangiora's Shopfront Display Competition
Rangiora’s town centre embraced its rural roots this October as local retailers came together for the return of the Rangiora Shopfront Display Competition, proudly supported by MoMac as principal sponsor.
Organised by the Northern A&P Association, the competition brought a historic local tradition back to life, encouraging Rangiora businesses to decorate their shopfronts with country-inspired displays in celebration of the upcoming Northern A&P Show.
Running from 9 to 16 October 2026, the initiative brought colour, creativity and a little friendly competition to the town centre, while celebrating the businesses that help make Rangiora such a great place to live, work and shop.
Bringing Back a Local Tradition
The competition was revived by the Northern A&P Association, with committee member Georgina Woods helping lead the initiative.
Historically, Rangiora businesses decorated their shop windows to celebrate the annual A&P Show. The association wanted to bring this tradition back, with the hope of making it an annual event once again.
The Northern A&P Show, held every Labour Weekend Saturday, is a longstanding community event that celebrates the district’s agricultural heritage, rural traditions and local community.
This year’s shopfront competition provided another opportunity to bring the town and country together, encouraging locals to explore the main street, support local retailers and get involved in the lead-up to the show.
Local Businesses Getting Behind the Competition
A total of 12 local businesses took part, creating displays inspired by the rural and agricultural themes of the A&P Show.
Participating businesses included:
- Backcountry Gifts
- Fi’s Flowers N Art
- North Canterbury Books
- Resene ColorShop
- Unichem Pharmacy
- City Mission Op Shop
- Hair Handlers
- Lunanas Bakery
- Clay and Cotton
- TAD
- Gather + You
- MoMac Print Shop
It was fantastic to see such a variety of local retailers getting involved, each bringing their own personality and creativity to the competition.
As part of MoMac’s involvement, our content team also visited participating businesses to produce a series of short videos, showcasing the people behind the shops, their displays and what makes their businesses special.
These videos were shared across MoMac’s social media channels, helping give participating retailers additional exposure and encouraging the wider community to visit and support them.
Celebrating Our 2026 Winners
Judging took place on Friday 16 October, with Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon and Northern A&P Association President Malcolm Wyllie selecting the overall winner.
Congratulations to Fi from Fi’s Flowers N Art, who took out the top prize!
Fi’s Flowers N Art received a $700 MoMac services voucher, which can be used towards services including graphic design, digital marketing, website services, photography, videography and in-house printing.
The People’s Choice Award went to Gather + You, recognising the support they received from the local community.
Gather + You received a $200 printing voucher from MoMac Print Studio.
A big congratulations to both businesses and everyone who participated. The effort put into the displays was a great reflection of the pride our local retailers have in their businesses and community.
MoMac’s Commitment to Supporting Local
As a Rangiora-based creative agency, MoMac was pleased to get behind the initiative as principal sponsor.
Alongside providing the competition prizes, our team supported the event through poster design and printing, promotional content and video production for participating businesses.
For MoMac Director Ryan McDonald, supporting initiatives like this is about recognising the importance of local businesses and the role they play in keeping Rangiora’s town centre thriving.
“Running a business isn’t always easy, and I think it’s important that we recognise the resilience, hard work and commitment of the people behind our local shops.
“Rangiora has a beautiful main street, and we’re really fortunate to have such a great mix of independent businesses. They give our town centre its character, purpose and sense of community.
“We love seeing the main street busy and alive with people, and we want to see that continue for generations to come.
“For us, it’s about giving back where we can, supporting the people who support our community and recognising the local businesses that provide such great services, often without the acknowledgement they deserve.
“Hats off to everyone who got involved, and to the Northern A&P Association for bringing this tradition back.”
Ryan McDonald, Director of MoMac
MoMac Operations Manager Merrin McDonald, who oversees the company’s community sponsorships and initiatives, represented MoMac at the competition’s prize presentations and enjoyed the opportunity to connect with participating businesses and organisers.
Looking Ahead to the Northern A&P Show
The shopfront competition was a great way to build excitement ahead of the Northern A&P Show on Saturday 24 October 2026.
A special thank you to Georgina Woods and the Northern A&P Association for their work organising the competition, Mayor Dan Gordon and Malcolm Wyllie for their involvement in judging, and all the local businesses who took the time to participate.
We’re proud to have played a part in bringing this tradition back to Rangiora and hope to see it continue to grow in the years ahead.
From all of us at MoMac, thank you for supporting local and helping keep Rangiora’s town centre a place we’re all proud to call home.
