MoMac Acquires Rangiora.com, Starting a New Chapter for North Canterbury’s Local Business Directory
MoMac has acquired Rangiora.com, with plans to invest in and grow the long-standing local platform into an even stronger business directory and community resource for North Canterbury.
As of October 2026, Rangiora.com is officially under the ownership of MoMac Socialising Media Limited.
For our team, the acquisition is a natural extension of what we already do.
MoMac was established in North Canterbury in 2017 and today works with businesses throughout the region across websites, digital marketing, design, content, strategy and print. Our directors, Ryan McDonald and Michael Price, are both North Canterbury locals, and our head office remains firmly based here in Rangiora.
Rangiora.com gives us another way to support the businesses and communities around us.
“This one feels like a really natural fit for us. It gives us another way to support our existing clients while creating a better experience for businesses already using Rangiora.com.”
“We want to improve the website, grow the community side of the platform and build it into a central hub for all things North Canterbury. Most importantly, we want to help more local businesses get found.”
— Ryan McDonald, Director, MoMac
More than just Rangiora
Despite its name, Rangiora.com has a much wider focus.
The directory serves businesses and communities throughout North Canterbury, including Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Woodend, Pegasus, Oxford, Amberley and surrounding areas.
The goal is simple: make it easier for people to discover businesses, services, events and organisations operating locally.
We believe there is significant potential to build on this.
Over the coming months, the MoMac team will continue developing the website, improving the business directory and looking at new ways to grow the community side of the platform.
We want Rangiora.com to become a useful starting point when someone wants to know what is available locally.
Local search is changing
Another reason we’re excited about the acquisition is the changing way people search online.
Google remains incredibly important, but search is no longer limited to typing a few keywords into a traditional search engine.
People are increasingly using AI tools and other digital platforms to ask more conversational questions. They’re looking for recommendations, comparing businesses and asking where they can find particular products or services in their area.
For businesses, that makes having a strong and consistent digital footprint across the web increasingly important.
“As search continues to evolve through Google, AI and new ways of finding information online, having a strong digital footprint is becoming even more important for businesses.”
“We also see real value in hyper-local platforms that are built specifically for the communities they serve. Our goal is to give North Canterbury businesses another strong local presence and more opportunities to be discovered online.”
— Michael Price, Director, MoMac
We see Rangiora.com becoming another valuable part of that digital footprint.
Rather than trying to compete with huge national and international directories, our focus is on doing local well.
Building a stronger platform for North Canterbury businesses
Existing Rangiora.com customers will continue to have their businesses represented on the platform, and we’ll be working to strengthen the service they receive.
We’re also looking at opportunities to provide MoMac clients with another way to increase their local visibility and make it easier for people throughout North Canterbury to discover them.
There are plenty of ideas on the table.
Our immediate focus is improving the existing platform and directory experience. From there, we’ll continue developing the community section and exploring new features that make Rangiora.com more useful for businesses, residents and visitors.
The long-term goal is to create a platform that brings together local businesses, community organisations, events and useful local information in one place.
Continuing a local legacy
We’re also conscious that we’re not starting Rangiora.com from scratch.
The website has existed within the North Canterbury community for many years and has been developed and looked after by local people before us.
We’d like to acknowledge Jane Moratti, who originally established and developed Rangiora.com, and Amy Sheppard, who continued operating the platform from 2025 to 2026.
We’re proud to take on the next chapter.
For MoMac, this isn’t about simply owning another website. It’s about taking an established local platform, investing in it and seeing how much further we can take it for the businesses and communities we work alongside every day.
There’s plenty still to come.
New ownership. New ideas. Same local focus.
