Building Strength Through Stories: MoMac at the 2025 Waghorn Builders Resilience Breakfast

When was the last time you slowed down to ask yourself “how am I really doing?”

“I’m fine” is usually our default reply and taking a moment to talk about resilience can be rare. But, it’s exactly the kind of pause that changes everything.

That’s why MoMac is proud to once again stand alongside Waghorn Builders Ltd in supporting the 2025 Resilience Breakfast, an event that brings people together to talk openly about mental health, wellbeing, and the power of perseverance.

Representing MoMac at this year’s event were Ryan, Michael, Tony, Josh, Carl, Sam, Brad, and Merrin and marks MoMac’s third year sponsoring and covering the event through our photography and videography services, helping capture the stories and moments that inspire communities across Aotearoa.

A Morning of Connection and Courage

Founded by Luke and Jake Waghorn, the Resilience Breakfast has become one of New Zealand’s leading community events dedicated to supporting mental health and personal growth. It’s a space where people from all walks of life, business owners, tradies, students, and community members, come together to share, learn, and grow stronger.

This year’s speakers brought heartfelt messages and wisdom to the stage.

Sir John Kirwan (JK), All Black legend and one of New Zealand’s most recognisable mental health advocates, shared his simple yet powerful philosophy of “DOT” and “DAT” which stands for Do One Thing, then Do Another Thing. It’s a reminder that small, steady steps can lead to lasting, positive change.

Bryce Casey, broadcaster and long-time mental health supporter, brought his trademark humour and honesty, reminding everyone that resilience often begins with connection and a willingness to be real.

Why MoMac Supports This Event

For Ryan McDonald, MoMac’s Director, the Resilience Breakfast holds deep personal meaning.

“Mental health is really important as I understand the pressures and challenges we all face in our lives. If we can help or share this message in a small way, it can make a big difference,” he says.

“It also shows our staff, clients, friends, and families that we’re real people behind the business, we care. Having lost friends and family to suicide, I know first-hand the pain it leaves behind. A bit of positive encouragement and a helping hand can go a long way.”

This belief in compassion and authenticity is something we carry into every part of what we do at MoMac. Whether through storytelling, creative collaboration, or community support, we’re committed to using our platform to make a difference.

Looking Ahead

A heartfelt thank-you to Waghorn Builders for hosting another incredible event and for leading conversations that truly matter.

Each Resilience Breakfast reminds us that we’re stronger together…as people, as teams, and as a community.

Because sometimes, a simple question like “How are you really doing?” can open the door to powerful change.
